Add-on Service
An optional extra sold alongside a core service — such as a nail trim during grooming, a nature walk during daycare, or medication administration during boarding — that raises the average ticket.
An add-on service is an optional extra a customer can attach to a core booking. During grooming, add-ons include nail grinding, teeth brushing, de-shedding treatment, or a flea bath. During boarding they include one-on-one playtime, a nature walk, extra feedings, medication administration, or a bath before pickup. During daycare they might be a training session or a report-card photo package.
Add-ons matter because they raise the average transaction value with high margin and little extra fixed cost — the pet is already on-site and staff are already engaged. A business that consistently offers relevant add-ons at booking and check-in can lift revenue substantially without adding new customers.
In software, add-ons are configured as sellable items with their own price and, often, a time cost so scheduling stays accurate (a bath add-on lengthens a grooming slot). They surface at the right moments: as upsell options during online booking, as suggestions at check-in, and as line items on the grooming ticket or boarding folio that flow to the point of sale. Some can be recurring (a daily walk add-on across a multi-night boarding stay).
Well-designed add-on menus are curated rather than overwhelming, priced clearly, and presented at the moment of highest intent — when the customer is already committing to the core service.
