Check-in / Check-out

The arrival and departure steps of a pet's visit — confirming details, belongings, and paperwork at drop-off, and settling charges and returning the pet and belongings at pickup.

Check-in and check-out are the bookend moments of any pet-care visit. Check-in is drop-off: staff confirm the reservation, verify vaccinations are current, note the pet's condition, record belongings (leash, bed, food, medication), review or update feeding and medication instructions, and ensure any required agreement is signed. Check-out is pickup: staff return the pet and its belongings, review the report card, add any incidental charges (an extra night, a bath, medication administered), and take payment.

In pet-care software these steps are streamlined so the front desk isn't scrambling at busy drop-off and pickup times. A check-in screen surfaces alerts (expired vaccine, unsigned waiver, balance due) before the pet is accepted. Check-out totals the visit automatically from the run assignment, add-ons, and length of stay, then processes payment through the point of sale.

Digital check-in/check-out also creates an audit trail: exact times, who handled the pet, and what belongings were logged — useful if there's ever a dispute about a lost item or the length of a boarding stay. Many systems offer contactless or self check-in via a tablet or the client's phone, and can trigger an SMS to the owner when their pet is checked out and ready.
