A package — often called a punch card or daycare package — is a prepaid bundle of visits sold as a single purchase. A common example is a ten-day daycare pass priced below ten single days, or a monthly unlimited membership. The customer pays up front and the balance is drawn down each time the pet attends.
Packages benefit both sides. Customers get a per-visit discount and the convenience of not paying at every drop-off. Businesses get cash up front, higher commitment (a parent with credits left is more likely to keep coming), and simpler check-in since no payment changes hands.
In daycare software, packages are tracked automatically: buying a ten-pack adds ten credits to the client's account, and each check-in deducts one, with the remaining balance visible to staff and often to the customer in their portal. Good systems handle the edge cases — expiration dates on unused credits, packages that apply only to certain days or services, sharing a package across two dogs in the same household, and low-balance reminders that prompt a repurchase before credits run out.
Packages differ from memberships mainly in structure: a package is a finite number of credits, while a membership is typically a recurring subscription. Both are core retention and cash-flow tools in the daycare business.
